Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) can be used to ‘harden’ buildings against bio-warfare agents.

This article provides a succinct overview of how Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) can be used to ‘harden’ buildings against bio-warfare agents.

The author notes that:“Using a combination of HEPA filters, diligent maintenance, and UVGI technology in HVAC systems will reduce the vulnerability for attacks on buildings. The UVGI system requires very little maintenance, which encourages greater compliance.”

The author is well positioned to make these claims. In addition to serving in the National Guard’s 128th Chemical Company, he is a Physician’s Assistant who works as a Health and Safety Officer for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
